Johnstown —
There were still roughly 1,000 phone lines out-of-service Thursday night, including some homes in the Prospect section of Johnstown.
Crews are still working to fix the problem on the Walnut Street Bridge. However, officials said the damage is not as bad as originally thought. Two fiber optic cables that were cut have already been replaced. The two copper cables are taking more time to fix because of the number of lines involved.
One of the cables holds 900 lines which were severed. The other holds 600 lines, and 200 of those were cut. For residents without a phone, that means using a cell phone, finding another phone, or going to the fire department where phones are available.
For those without Verizon phone service, officials said service should fully resume by Saturday at the latest.
WCRO radio has also been impacted by this situation.
