Pileggi says he may run for US Senate

By The Associated Press

   HARRISBURG, Pa. --

State Senate Republican leader Dominic Pileggi says he may join the crowded 2012 GOP field for U.S. Senate.

In a posting on his Facebook page Tuesday, Pileggi said he is concerned about the paths the nation is taking to reduce unemployment, shrink the federal debt and the new national health-care law. He said his supporters are urging him to run, but that he's made no final decision.

Pileggi, who's from Delaware County, is winding up his fifth year as the state Senate majority leader. The former Chester mayor has served nine years in the state Senate and is up for re-election next year.

If he decides to run, he'd join at least nine others who have said they'll seek the Republican nomination to take on Democratic incumbent Bob Casey.
