Pizza & Prevention promotes safety, donates thousands to fire dept.

By Brittany Boyer

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. —

For the last 10 years Fox's Pizza Den in Punxsutawney has been giving a whole new meaning to fire prevention.

Every year since 2001, Fox's Pizza Den has held Pizza and Prevention.

Owner Scott Anthony told 6 News after the tragic events on 9/11/01 it solidified to him the importance of firefighters in local communities.

In an effort to say thanks to firefighters and to give them some extra help with fundraising he held an event called Pizza and Prevention.

The event would consist of pizza, particularly the Big Daddy size being sold for $9.11.

The Kengersky Insurance Agency also has been lending a helping hand by donating smoke detectors.

Since 2001 they have given away more than 3,000 smoke detectors.

All of the proceeds from the one day pizza sale go to the Punxsutawney Fire Department.

Anthony said the first year they raised about $6,000.

In 2011, the Pizza and Prevention fundraiser went down in the books for the most profitable fundraiser yet.

Anthony said that they were able to raise more than $33,000.

All of the money went to the Punxsutawney Fire Department, which has three station's.

Last year Fox's Pizza Den sold more than 3,400 pizzas.

Anthony hopes that they can sell more than 3,500 this year.

All of the money goes toward equipment for the fire department.

The annual Pizza & Prevention fundraiser will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
