Plane Crash Kills 6

Centre County

What started out as a family flying to visit their son ends in tragedy as their plane crashes in Centre County, killing all passengers inside. The single engine plane crashed just yards away from the new Centre County Prison in Benner Township.

An eyewitness says he heard the plane sputter and then saw it nosedive into the ground. It flipped over on impact causing the fuselage to brake in half. There was no explosion and no fire. Jeffrey Jacober, his wife Karen, their 15 year old son Eric, and three other friends were flying from Florida to watch their son Michael play Lacrosse for Penn State. Officials say everyone in the plane died on impact.

Tim Boyde, a Centre County Administrator says, In speaking with the representative from the FAA it looks like it's being called due to icing, but there may be some other issues such as weight distribution, etc. But that's all premature, we won't know until the FAA comes in.

The Federal Aviation Administration is holding a press conference Sunday at 3pm on the crash. Channel 6 will have a news team there and we'll bring you the details on Channel 6 News at 6.
