Plane Crash Victim Was On His Way To Prison

Investigators said Centre County was the intended destination of a plane which crashed earlier this week, killing one man.

Further, the Associated Press reported that one of the four passengers was on his way to serve six months in prison at the Moshannon Valley Correctional Facility in Philipsburg.

Mohamed Abdel-Khalik was on his way from Nashville when the plane went down. Abdel-Khalik was arrested in 2004 for trying to secure a passport using someone else's identity.

There was some concern at the time that Khalik had connections to terrorism, but those suspicions were dismissed.

Police said Khalik and his brother were unable to board a commercial flight to Philipsburg due to inclement weather, so they asked pilot Kaul Mitchell Wilson, 21, to fly them.

Wilson was killed when the plane crashed just short of the Midstate Regional Airport runway.

Another man, 18-year-old Justin Hughes, was also on the flight and remains in Altoona Hospital in serious condition.

Khalik is in fair condition with a broken ankle and injured hip. He will still have to report to prison by 2 p.m. Monday.

His brother, Fayez, is in serious condition and remains on a respirator.
