SHADE TOWNSHIP, Pa. —
There has been 43 break-ins over the course of a month, and police said nearly 80% have been solved.
6News spoke with people in Shade Township who said it used to be a town you could leave your doors unlocked and windows down, but all of that has changed in the past few weeks.
It's good news for Chief Tom Holland and his neighbors.
In the days two suspects were put behind bars, the rash of car break-ins in Shade Township have silenced.
"There's been two arrests already, and we've got a pile more to make," Holland said.
"They definitely need to be brought to justice for what they've done," victim Justin Wirick said.
Police said Terry Hutzell and Brian Wright were working together all over town.
A suspect's confession and a tip from a victim helped police identify the two.
"He gave me some information and I had a 17-year-old juvenile, female, who gave me some more information on the situation," Holland said.
Wirick was one of those 43 hit.
He said his GPS was taken from his Hummer and an even more bizarre item for his relative's SUV went missing.
"She had insulin needles in her car," Wirick said.
Police even recovered a tattoo gun kit.
They said the two ditched most of the $2000 worth that they stole, but pocketed the cash.
Police believe it's a contributor to a possible bad habit.
"Drug problems, okay. It's not getting any better, it's continuously getting worse," Holland said.
It's an epidemic in a small town that many considered safe, now, finding themselves locking up.
"Around here, you're just used to keeping everything unlocked; and it's actually being safe, but now, I guess you have to keep everything under watch, and everything locked," Wirick said.
Hutzell and Wright only have one charge against them for the break-ins.
Chief Holland said he is hoping to pin the rest of the 42 charges by next week.
