Police bust drug ring one block from elementary school

By Maria Miller

CARROLLTOWN, Pa. —

Thousands of dollars worth of heroin are off the streets and so are the people accused of selling it.

It was an investigation conducted by the Cambria County Drug Task Force, Attorney General's Office and local police officers. Investigators said undercover officers bought the drugs from a home in Carrolltown over the past six months.

"There were several undercover and controlled buys made on these individuals before search warrant was obtained which lead to the finding of a large amount of heroin," said Wayne Langerholc, assistant district attorney.

Police found $10,000 dollars worth of heroin to be exact, along with $3,000 in cash and some guns.

The three individuals who are now in jail include William Rounsley of Northern Cambria and Ernest and Deborah Lute, the couple who lived inside the Carrolltown home along with their two young children.

"They don't deserve kids if they're doing that kind of stuff in front of kids," said Donna McGeary. "It's crazy."

McGeary's grandchildren attend school at Cambria Heights Elementary School which is only about a block away from the home.

"It is scary when you have grand-kids and kids going to school."

Police often use informants to track down drug activity but say their biggest help comes through tips from the community, something McGeary said needs to happen more often.

"It's going on everywhere. They think cause it's small town (it's not)," said McGeary. "It's here. It's here."

"That's why it's so important to have people, additional sets of eyes in the community to look out and see if there is some other type of element or things going on," said Langerholc.

Police said it's an ongoing investigation and they do expect more arrests in the coming days.
