Police: Cambria Co. couple used children to distribute prescription pills

By Maria Miller

NORTHERN CAMBRIA, Pa. —

Two people in Cambria County are facing drug charges for allegedly using three children to deliver prescription pills.

Police say Stacey and Lawrence Wholaver used her three children, ages 3, 5 and 12 to distribute the drugs throughout Northern Cambria on three different occasions.

On Wednesday they were scheduled to appear before a judge for their preliminary hearings but they were both continued.

"The public defender cannot represent both of the defendants as there is a conflict," said Wayne Langerhold, an assistant district attorney for Cambria County. "Stacey Wholaver will need to get court appointed counsel. The public defender's office will continue to represent Lawrence."

6 News caught up with Lawrence Wholaver's brother as he was leaving court Wednesday afternoon.

"It's actually a shock," said Doug Wholaver. "I never would have thought he would do something like that."

He said the couple had split up and that his family never really cared for Stacey. But he said it's hard for him to believe that his brother could be guilty of such accusations.

"I don't know what kind of evidence they have, but I really don't think that they would do something like that," said Doug Wholaver. "At least I hope they wouldn't do something like that.

The Wholavers' hearings will be rescheduled for sometime in early January.

Officials told 6 News the children are staying with Stacey's family.
