Police Chase Spans 8 Miles, Ends In Crash

COLLEGE TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

A police chase ended in a crash and arrest after a driver fled for eight miles through at least one active construction zone.

The pursuit started in the Philipsburg area and ended on Park Avenue near the intersection of Orchard Road by Mount Nittany Medical Center at about 10 a.m.

Police used a technique called pursuit immobilization with a marked cruiser on Park Avenue. The technique caused the driver who was fleeing to crash the van he was driving through a guardrail.

According to a WJAC-TV News crew at the scene, the driver appeared to be uninjured. The driver was arrested and handcuffed in the back of a police cruiser.

It was not immediately clear what sparked the pursuit and the driver's name was not released as of 1:30 p.m. Stay with WJACTV.com, WJACTV.com Mobile and WJACTV.com for continuing coverage.
