HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. —

State police said one of the guns used to murder three people in Blair County last month was purchased illegally.

Police said Jeffrey Lee Michael shot and killed three people on December 21along Juniata Valley Road near Geeseytown before dying in a shootout with state police.

Police said Friday afternoon their investigation revealed a Taurus .45 caliber handgun used by Michael that day belonged to Brenda Shultz.  She has been charged with one felony count of  “Firearms Act violation” and two counts of “Unsworn Falsification”.

Shultz was his live-in girlfriend and bought the gun for Michael in 2011 state police said.

Court documents obtained by 6 News said when police questioned Shultz, she said Michael was unable to buy his own gun because of a protection from abuse order filed against him.

Those documents said Shultz bought the gun at Campbell’s Sporting Goods Store in Hollidaysburg in 2011.  It said hultz told them Michael went to the store with her and picked out the gun himself and gave her cash to pay for it.

Police said the PFA had been vacated nearly 7 months before, making him technically eligible to purchase the gun himself.

The court document said Shultz told police, “He paid for it and I actually bought it, but it was for him.  He bought it for himself.”

Police said regardless of whether or not Shultz thought Michael was unable to purchase a gun, she still violated the law by claiming to be the owner of that handgun. Shultz is scheduled to appear before a judge next Tuesday.
