Police Investigate Suspicious Circumstances Surrounding Missing Man

State police are investigating what they called a suspicious missing persons case out of Somerset County.

Thomas Conrad was last seen in Somerset County in 2008. Conrad previously served 15 years in Delaware County for a rape conviction. Troopers said red flags went up when Conrad failed to register as a sex offender.

Trooper Joel Penatzer said he had no comment when asked why Conrad's disappearance wasn't brought to light sooner.

According to published reports, Trooper John Matchik said he believes Conrad may have been killed, but Matchik and Penatzer both denied making that statement.

Conrad's Jeep was sold to someone in Reading, Pa., and Conrad's wife, Jeannette Battle-Conrad is charged with arson. It was not immediately if those two incidents are connected to the missing person's investigation and troopers would not release any further details.

Conrad remains listed as a missing person. Anyone with information is asked to call state police in Somerset County at 445-4104.
