Police: Man Shot, Killed After Confronting Bear Hunters

BEAVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

Police said a dispute over trespassing ended with a fatal shooting in Jefferson County.

According to officials, Frank Shaffer, 63, was killed after he apparently confronted a group of bear hunters walking across or trespassing on his land.

A member of the bear hunting party, Paul Plyer, was also hospitalized for a gunshot wound.

The shooting happened in a rural area of Beaver Township near the community of Summerville.

The shooting is still under investigation but officials said they expect to file charges.
