Police Question Parents, Day Care In Infant Abuse Investigation

SPRING TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

Police in Center County have confirmed that the parents of a young-child and a day care owner have submitted to polygraph tests in a child abuse probe.

Spring Township police said a 5-month-old girl was rushed to Geisinger Hospital in Danville with head trauma on Aug. 18.

The child’s parents told investigators that their daughter was injured at a home day care facility in a quiet rural neighborhood near Bellefonte.

Due to the ongoing investigation, Spring Township Police Chief David King told WJAC-TV he’s unable to release the names of the victim’s parents or the day care operator.

"We looked at the parents; we looked at the day care center. We're trying to gather the truth as much as we can to find out which way it'll really go and what to do with it. It's more clear that we're looking at the day care center,” said King. “It's difficult emotionally, because here you have a helpless 5-month-old child, a baby girl, she can't do anything for herself. She can't speak up."

A Department of Public Welfare official in Harrisburg told WJAC-TV that the home day care is properly licensed to care for six kids at a time.

Investigators said they plan to meet with the county district attorney and children and youth services officials before filing any charges.
