Police rule Menoher Boulevard fire arson; causing concern for neighbors

By Melanie Gillespie

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

A fire in Cambria County over the weekend has been ruled arson.

Police are investigating, but neighbors who live just blocks away are worried for their property.

Menoher Boulevard is quiet now, but early Sunday night crews were called to put out a fire at a house in the 600 block.

"By the time I got to the porch, the fire truck went down. I was wondering what was going on. So, when you looked down the street, you couldn't see no fire at first, but then when I looked I could see a flame in the living room," neighbor David Myers said.

Those flames were intentionally set, according to Johnstown Fire Chief.

The department said it started in a back room on the second floor.

"It makes you think... who's next?" Myers said.

Myers lives within 50 yards of the house.

He said within the past month, someone has been inside remodeling.

"The whole time before they started remodeling, nobody bothered that house. Now, as soon as they started working on it, it catches on fire," Myers said.

Myers and neighbors, alike, wonder what could happen with so many empty houses sitting around them.

One neighbor 6News spoke with said she's in fear for her kids' lives.

"That house has been empty a long time, and that one there too, but after you said that, it makes you think, who would do it?" Myers added.

Police said a 15-year-old was responsible for the fire.
