Police Say Aggressive Driver Campaign Off To Good Start

Local and state police said they have handed out a considerable number of tickets and warnings over the past week in their efforts to crack down on aggressive drivers.

It's part of an expanded campaign launched by PennDOT. Police said they have been more visible on the roads and they are issuing more tickets and warnings.

In Patton Township, Chief John Petrick said they have handed out 50 tickets and warnings having to do with aggressive driving. In State College, police said they have handed out 17 tickets, primarily for speeding. State police said they have also handed out tickets.

Aggressive driving includes speeding, tailgating, running red lights or stop signs and unsafe lane changing. According to PennDOT officials, aggressive driving is the number one cause of highway fatalities.

PennDOT is funding the campaign for local and state police departments.
