Police, Scrap Yards Work Together To Catch Thieves

Thieves have been taking brass and copper medallions from area cemeteries and copper wire from electric poles in recent weeks. Police now have started working closely with scrap yards in an effort to find the thieves.

Rollock Inc. said it gets about a call a week from police telling the company to be on the lookout for stolen metal products. Police send it information on what was stolen, and the man who weighs all of the scrap coming in keeps contact information on all customers who come in with metal to be recycled to be given to police if someone trades stolen metal for cash.

Company officials said many customers get checks in return for their scrap, so they're not likely to use a fake name.
