Police Searching For Fugitive Considered Armed, Dangerous

BOLIVAR, Pa. —

Law enforcement agencies continued their search Wednesday for a Westmoreland County man considered armed and dangerous.

David McGinnis is wanted for insurance fraud. Richland Township police said McGinnis reported his truck was stolen, but authorities later determined the truck was in storage.

Officers said they tried to serve two arrest warrants to David McGinnis on Monday, but they received a tip that McGinnis might have been armed. A CERT team surrounded his home in Bolivar and used tear gas, but did not find anyone inside.

About 40 state troopers have teamed up with a special emergency response team to search for McGinnis. Helicopters and search dogs are being used in the manhunt.

Police said McGinnis was last seen with a rifle, but he has a criminal history that makes it illegal for him to possess a firearm.

"We're trying to determine how dangerous is this person and what levels do we need to raise awareness to the people in the community (and) what levels do we need to take care of for ourselves so that we have safe troopers and we're able to keep everyone out of harm's way," said Pennsylvania state trooper Stephen Limani.

McGinnis' wife, Denise, was initially accused in connection with the incident but was released by police.

Anyone with information on McGinnis' whereabouts is asked to immediately call police. Police said people should not approach him.
