JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

Police in Cambria County said a 17-year-old has confessed to numerous arsons in Johnstown over the past two weeks.

Chief Craig Foust said a school resource officer cracked the case. Because the suspect is a minor, police could not give details on how the resource officer linked the crimes to the suspect.

Investigators said they believe he was involved in setting a fire at Moxham Lumber, four trash fires and a fire at an abandoned house last week in the Hornerstown section of Johnstown. The teen was will be charged with arson and other charges, officials said.

Foust said it is possible more people were involved in the arsons, but he said the arrest of a suspect must be a relief for residents.

"It's certainly a relief to us. We've been spending a lot of time and money on this investigation (and) … putting extra officers out," Foust said.

It was not immediately known if the teen is suspected of spray painting threats to burn down the city. In addition, investigators said it's unknown if the minor will be charged as an adult.

The teen remains in the Cambria County Detention Center. Stay with WJACTV.com, WJAC-TV News and WJACTV.com Mobile for continuing coverage.
