Police Use Extensive Measures to Track Alcohol at Party where PSU Cheerleader Fell Out of Window

By Stef Davis

STATE COLLEGE, Pa

Police say 19-year-old Paige Raque was drinking when she fell out of a window at a party in October. But where did the alcohol come from? State College police conducting a SIP investigation to find out.

Lt. Chris Fischel, State College police, says, "SIP is used to determine the source of alcohol provided to minors."

Police used extensive measures to track the alcohol back to the eight Penn State students charged earlier Tuesday. They looked at surveillance footage from the apartment complex and State College liquor stores. They tracked down credit card receipts for bottles, cups, banners, and other party supplies. Police even got search warrants allowing them to look at hospital records for Raque to get her blood alcohol level, and a lease for the apartment the party was held at to see who lived there and who was responsible for the party. The measures are in-depth and involved and have many Penn State students in a state of surprise.

Garrett Schwier, Penn State senior, says, "Typically what I would think is they wouldn’t go through so much trouble because it’s difficult to catch people like that."

And while many students like Schwier are surprised police went to such lengths, they aren't surprised that they are able to.

Schwier adds, “Search warrants give police a lot of power, so I’m not surprised they were able to go through those lengths to find credit card numbers and transactions and things like that."
