More delays -- and more frustration with the I-99 project in Centre County -- which has been in the planning and construction stages for well over a decade. The latest information comes from the plan PENNDOT is submitting to the Department of Environmental Protection.... for a permanent fix to the acid rock problem -- that's plagued the Skytop portion of the Interstate construction.

Details of PENNDOT's remediation plan for I-99 are emerging. The problem- acidic rock found in the I-99 construction zone . It poses a significant environmental risk- especially in terms of runoff to nearby water sources. PENNDOT is under the gun to get it fixed- and fixed quickly.

PENNDOT is now estimating it will take at least 10 million dollars to fix the acid rock problem at Skytop- with construction delays of a year or more.

PENNDOT proposes putting the rock materials posing the greatest hazard in an abandon mine site- while other materials would be dumped in a landfill.
