Potholes Plague Cambria County

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

This story started with a phone call from a man from Lower Yoder Township who was terrified someone would a driver might destroy their his or her car on a certain pothole.

The man took matters into his own hands by spray painting a ring around the hole. Lower Yoder Township Public Works crews were out working when WJAC-TV tried to contact them.

Meanwhile, just down the road in Westmont Westmont, crews are on top of the pothole problem. Westmont has 11 full-time workers and four part-time workers to maintain their 30 miles of road.

Public Works' Don Blasko said, "We try never to leave the roads go to the point of having potholes that cause damage to vehicles or even our own equipment when were running it."

WJAC-TV headed to Johnstown and found many roads plagued with holes, including the Moxham section of the city.

WJAC-TV found out there's only four full-time workers covering their 70 to 100 miles of roads. Due to money problems, Johnstown laid off several workers from Johnstown Public Works.

Layoffs aren't the city's only problem. Workers said their patch truck has been out of commission since April, forcing them to patch holes using a pickup truck.

new graf> Workers told WJAC-TV they're flooded with complaint calls and the issues just keep piling up.

City Manager Kristen Denne said, "We will be working with council in the upcoming budget year to try and replace some of those positions."

In the meantime, workers ask drivers in Johnstown to be patient.
