Pre-Packaged Lettuce Recalled Due To Bacterial Contamination

By WJAC Web Staff

A dangerous bacteria has been found in prepackaged lettuce possibly sold in central Pennsylvania

After a routine test, the  Food and Drug Administration discovered listeria in Giant Eagle's Farmers Market 8-ounce package of shredded iceberg lettuce. The lettuce is produced by River Ranch Fresh Foods.

The lettuce was also used in some of Giant Eagle brand sandwiches. So far, there have been no reported illnesses.

If you have the lettuce with UPC No. 3003430195 and a sell-by date of Oct. 14, 2011, do not eat it. Return the bag to the store for a full refund.

For more information visit the Giant Eagle recall website.
