Preservation Work Continues At Clearfield Co. Cemetery

DuBOIS, Pa. —

People living near a dilapidated Clearfield County cemetery say it looks the best it has in years, thanks to the work of a volunteer organization.

But officials with that group said it's only the start of work to fix up that area.

In the past week, work to clean up Rumbarger Cemetery has picked up steam with crews mowing grass and cutting down trees.

The cemetery is located just outside downtown DuBois, steps from the DuBois Regional Medical Center. But the cemetery has been a frequent target of vandalism over the years, raising some concern of people who live in the area.

The Rumbarger Cemetery Preservation Society got its start this year. Members said with the work this week the cemetery looks better than it has in years. But they added it's only the beginning and after years of neglect, it will take time to bring the cemetery back to what it once was.

Rumbarger Cemetery is the final resting place of many historical figures from DuBois, including many of the city's mayors. Organizers say that's one reason it's important to preserve it.

They're looking for more volunteers. If you're interested, call them at 814-661-4596.
