Principal Named For First Catholic High School In Happy Valley

HARRIS TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

Members of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy Board of Trustees said they’re making progress in plans of creating the first Catholic high school in State College.

“There are some families who are looking for more of a faith-centered environment, and our school fits that bill,” said Board of Trustees Vice President Robert Shearer.

Officials said the sale of the Boalsburg Elementary building for $750,000 from State College Area School District was recently approved by a Centre County judge.

Blueprints for renovations of the building show three phases of upgrades, ranging from a chapel to a gymnasium and six new classrooms.

Academy officials publicly named Dr. Doug Bleggi as principal of St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy.

The former St. Francis University associate professor told WJAC-TV on Wednesday that he’s already busy planning the curriculum and preparing to interview future instructors.

“We’ll offer a curriculum that’s academically challenging. As a college prep high school, it will have honors programs," said Bleggi. “It will offer faith formation in a strong Christian service. It can offer instruction in theology and in those Christian values. It will also offer small class size, a demanding curriculum and high parent involvement.”
