Program to help those interested in Marcellus industry

By Brittany Boyer

DuBOIS, Pa. —

The natural gas industry has become a booming industry in Clearfield County.

It is not uncommon to drive around and notice license plates from the south. People are traveling from as far as Texas to work in the Marcellus Shale industry.

To keep up with the booming industry, Pennsylvania CareerLink is lending a helping hand.

Peggy Johnson, a staff member at the CareerLink in Dubois, said there has been an increase in people looking for information about getting into the natural gas industry.

CareerLink will soon be holding information sessions for entry-level jobs throughout North Central Pennsylvania.

The sessions will give those interested the chance to learn more about the industry.

Through the information sessions, interested candidates can submit resumes for a newly added program.

The program will be through ShaleNet.

Those accepted into the program will complete 120 hours of training.

The program will  teach basic knowledge of the industry, hazard identification and provide training on safety awareness.

CareerLink is only accepting 17 people into the free program.

Information Sessions in Clearfield County:
Nov. 7 from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Dubois CareerLink

Nov. 9 from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Clearfield CareerLink
