Project 720

Johnstown —

The Johnstown School District has been awarded $100,000 to see Project 720 succeed this year. It's not something parents and students will notice right away, but it is expected to involve every student.

The objectives of this project are to keep a rigorous curriculum going and provide opportunities for students to keep earning college credit as they attend high school. Students can earn recognized credentials in different areas. Keeping schools small can make it easier for students and staff.

The goal is to know each student, understand their needs and meet them. But a lot of the work will be in analyzing this information. Another big aspect of Project 720 is too get high school dropouts back in school and keep students who are thinking about dropping out in school.

Alan Johnson is with the Johnstown School District. He tells Channel 6 News, "It's how do we learn each student individually and are able to keep track of key indicators of their performance so we can see when they're beginning to show signs that they're faltering academically or behaviorally or in some other way and then we're able to intervene.

This project is called 720 because that's the number of days students spend in school from 9th to 12th grades. And that's the goal.
