Prosecutors won't seek death penalty in Cambria Co. Prison homicide case

By WJAC Web Staff

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. —

Cambria County prosecutors said they will not seek the death penalty against a state prison inmate charged with killing his cellmate.

Wednesday's Tribune-Democrat reported that the public defender for 21-year-old William Cramer entered a not guilty plea for him on Tuesday.

Cramer is facing homicide and other counts related to the Aug. 4, 2012  strangulation of his cellmate, 28-year-old William Sherry.

One prosecutor told the newspaper on Tuesday that there didn't appear to be aggravating circumstances in Cramer's case that would warrant the death sentence.

Police said Cramer used a bed sheet to strangle Sherry.
