CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. —

Penn State students are providing free tax preparation help to households that earn less than $50,000 as part of a nationwide program.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program -- or VITA – also helps people filing taxes understand the process.

"We try to give them a little education along the way, teaching them about taxes so they understand it. I think that's very important for anyone who's getting out of bed in the morning and going to work every day," said Cathy Bowen, VITA site coordinator.

To make an appointment at the Penn State branch of VITA, call 863-7448.
