Rabid Raccoon Tears Through Home

A Cambria County woman woke up to find a rabid raccoon tearing through her home.

Bettie Dodson said she was awakened around 6 a.m. by the raccoon, which damaged her bedroom and kitchen doors.

The raccoon got into the home by crashing through a window, Dodson said.

Dodson said she locked herself and her daughter in her daughter's room and called the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Wildlife Conservation Officer Larry Olsavsky trapped the raccoon a short time later in the Dodsons' basement.

The animal was euthanized and test results showed the raccoon was rabid.

Olsavsky said residents should always stay away from wild animals.
