Recently fired PSU official connected to perjury case

By Gary Sinderson

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. —

Sources confirmed with 6News that the recent dismissal of a Penn State athletics official is connected to the perjury case of two former administrators caught up in the fallout from the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal.

Acting Athletic Director David Joyner declined to comment on the situation at a recent press conference and would only confirm that Associate Athletic Director Mark Sherburne was released for a "human relations issue."

One source close to the situation told 6News that new information obtained could be "devastating" to the court cases of former Athletic Director Tim Curley and former Vice President of Business and Finance Gary Schultz.

The administrators are accused of lying to a grand jury about their knowledge and role in the 2002 alleged sexual encounter between former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky and a young boy in a shower, later reported by then-graduate-assistant Mike McQueary.
