JOHNSTOWN —

Red Cross leaders have accepted a union offer for employees to return to work. According to Marianne Spampinato, of the Red Cross, workers are to be back on the job Thursday.

Beginning Sunday, Communication Workers of America members picketed in Johnstown and Wheeling, West Virginia, at what was to be one of the biggest blood drives of the year.

Leaders said because of picketers, only 300 units of blood were collected, instead of the 1,000 units they expected.

Workers said the key issue in the strike was health-care.
