Rendell: Pens Arena Shouldn't Hinge On Gambling

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell said plans for a new arena for the Pittsburgh Penguins should not depend on who gets a slot machine license in the city.

A gambling company, Isle of Capri, has offered to foot the $290 million cost to build a new facility - but only if it gets one of the state's gambling licenses.

Rendell said, even if that doesn't happen, he's hoping that the eventual winning applicant will voluntarily contribute $7 1/2 million a year to a new arena.
