The pool in Brockway has been a part of the community for several decades.

In its years it has attracted hundreds of families in the Jefferson County area. 

While the pool has attracted many, workers at the pool said it has needed major renovations for a while.

On Friday state senator Joe Scarnati of the 25th district held an event to celebrate newly completed renovations at the pool in Brockway. 

"This doesn't happen in every community.  Communities are struggling to keep pools open. Not to renovate them, keep them open," said Scarnati. 

Thanks to a grant through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the community pool was able to make some much needed renovations.

The grant, which was a matching grant helped the pool successfully add nearly $360,000 worth of renovations. 

"To come out here and see a project like this when its been done and to see what a great asset it will be to the community.  A pool like this is a fabulous recreational opportunity here for the youth," said DCNR secretary, Richard Allan. 

"You see pools closing and not renovating.  We have been blessed in this area with the commitment from the community and local businesses and government to extend this to the community and it has worked out very well," said Bob Weitzel of the Brockway Recreational Board. 

Some of the upgrades include a new baby pool, a waiting pool, slides, fencing, a new heating system and making the entire facility in compliance with ADA requirements. 

"We have been very blessed in this community and a lot of those blessings are coming back now with not only local support for a project like this, but myself, and Speaker Smith bringing the dollars back from Harrisburg to help complete it."
