Repairs on State College's Memorial Field Push Spring Sports Out

By Stef Davis

STATE COLLEGE, Pa

Aggrivation Monday night over lack of progress on fixing up State College's Memorial Field.

Mike Damiano says, "This should've been done two months ago. All it is is some concrete, aluminum, and steel work."

After hearing public comment, the school board voted to put the Memorial Field project out to bid. But that means three separate spring sports will have to find new home turf. Athletic Director Peg Pennepacker is making other arrangements for the teams, but not without some hurdles to jump over herself.

Peg Pennepacker says, "Spring practice starts March 7th. But we can't start using the park and rec fields until April 1st."

And so the district is working to find solutions to the spring sports dilemma. Many parents are frustrated, saying too much time was wasted, and urging the board to move forward to keep the effects on athletics to a minimum.

Another parent adds, "The kids have precious little time here to use these resources and so they need to be available. It’s going to make an impact on them. So I am encouraging quick action."
