Reservists Return Home After Overseas Duty

SLIDESHOW: Heroes Welcomed Home

PUNXSUTAWNEY - A happy homecoming in Punxsutawney as 22 soldiers return safely home to their families.

Imagine not wrapping your arms around your son, husband, daughter, or wife for 16 long months. That's exactly what the families of the 247th Corp Support Battalion have had to deal with, but Wednesday that long time apart came to an end.

Angel Washic said, "Overwhelming. God I love him. I missed him so much...Anxious, happy."

And those emotions were felt by everyone at the Punxsutawney armory wednesday afternoon as the bus finally rolled in. And it wasn't long before the list of chores followed.

Washic said, "Oh rough. I'm glad to give him back the garbage detail and the bills!"

Sue Erlandson said, "It was very stressful. I'm glad to have him home because I need the grass mowed."

But through the laughter, lies a more serious sigh of relief that everyone from the battalion made it home safely. The soldiers of the 247th have been serving in Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan for roughly a year providing logistical support and handling mortuary affairs.

LTCDR Erlandson said, "We had a tough mission. We had seven combat badge winners from the battalion."

And after a long and difficult mission, the soldiers and their families are ready for some much needed r and r.

Erlandson said "I'm just have to say that I am so proud of my husband...We're very proud of him."
