Residents Want More Police Coverage

A Somerset County police officer catches a man suspected of running over a woman and her 10-year old son then leaving the scene. Boswell residents said this proves that the community needs more police coverage.

But town leaders said the community just doesn't have the money.

Officer Donald Lepley works part-time, 25 hours a week. It was by chance he was on duty to arrest the suspect, William Lint.

"Had I not been on duty I'm not sure if someone would've remembered seeing him or identified him," said Officer Lepley.

Residents hope borough leaders give Lepley more hours to work and keep on eye on crime.

Borough leaders told WJAC-TV they recognize that there is a need for more police coverage but there isn't enough money in the borough's budget.

Right now, leaders are applying for grants to help pay for more coverage.
