CLEARFIELD, Pa —
It's a trend being reported in communities across the state with lots of Marcellus Shale drilling activity.
Police departments are linking an increase in crime to drilling workers and that trend is popping up in our region.
Departments around Clearfield are noticing more fights at local bars and hotels and an increasing amount of alcohol-related arrests.
"We're seeing mostly alcohol related offenses," said Clearfield Borough Police Chief Vince McGinnis. "Lawrence Township is seeing an increase and we end up backing them up on calls."
Local officials said out-of-state workers have flooded the area and that sometimes leads to fights between employees of rival companies.
But they told 6 News that the drilling has brought along a few other things, like more traffic and a boost to local businesses.
