Road Work In Richland Township

Related

Summer is a time to be on the move -- but some drivers in Cambria County are going nowhere fast. A major road construction project is underway near the site of the new Wal-Mart Supercenter in Richland Township.

Road crews are working two shifts; five days a week to get everything done on time. At times -- it's causing a traffic nightmare here at the intersection of Elton Road and Theater Drive. But in a couple of months -- they tell us this will all be gone.

Most of the 4.5 million dollar project focuses on Elton Road. That's where a new drain system is going in. They're also adding two lanes.

Mike Ondecko, Project Manager says, "They did a traffic study and thought with the congestion with the new Wal-Mart we needed to do some additional widening and put some additional lines of travel in.

PENNDOT wanted to start the project last year, but once the Wal-Mart project was a go, they decided to wait a year to get everything done at once. The project is on track to be completed by mid-December -- but things should start clearing up for motorists this fall.

Ondecko says, "We'll be doing sign structure, signs, maybe some signaling that won't really effect traffic but we definitely need to get the roadway done by the end of October."

The Wal-Mart project did add to the magnitude of this project. Because of that -- the developer is footing one million dollars of the bill. And PENNDOT is again reminding motorists to use caution while driving through this work zone.
