Route 22 Groundbreaking

Related

It's an extremely dangerous road in Pennsylvania known for accidents. Today is the official start of making a major section of Route 22 safer for you. We're told this project will improve Route 22 all around, leading to economic development, and ridding the highway of the dangerous reputation that precedes it. The ground breaking today marks a time many of you who travel Route 22 have been waiting for. PennDOT plans to widen this two lane road to a five lane between Mundy's Corner and the Indiana County line saying this could mean great things for you and the area. This stretch of highway has taken the best of many cars, causing devastating accidents. Between 1997 and 2001 there were 75 accidents and one death along Route 22. In 2003 alone, there were 47 accidents two in the work zone, but after many different studies, officials think this expansion is the best decision for you. Estimated project costs reach 31 million dollars paid for by both federal and state funding. Along with the highway construction, improvements are planned to better highway lighting for all access ramps.
