Routine Traffic Stop Turns Into Police Manhunt

What began as a routine traffic stop turned into much more when a man ran from police in Windber Somerset County.

At about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, two Windber police officers pulled a car over on Railroad Street. Witnesses said one of the officers pulled out a gun and their suspect took off on foot.

Several police departments from Somerset and Cambria Counties searched throughout Windber streets and in a wooded area near 17th and Railroad Streets.

Three people were taken into custody for questioning but as of Tuesday night, no charges were filed against them.

Police called off the search for the man Tuesday afternoon. They told WJAC-TV that the man did not pose a threat to the public.

Police would not release many details including the name of the man they are searching for. However charges are expected to be filed Tuesday night. The police criminal complaint should explain exactly what happened.
