Sad Anniversary Remembered

Blair County —

An anniversary can be a time of great celebration, but in this case it isn't. One year ago, Hurricane Ivan brought flood waters to our area. In Claysburg, those waters took a little boy's life.

Two-year-old Hunter Delasko got too close to the rising flood waters and fell in. Over the weekend, family and friends came together to remember the young boy they called "Bubba." As part of the remembrance, loved ones tried to hold a candle light vigil, but just like Hunter's young life, the wind snuffed out the flames too quickly. Time is supposed to heal all wounds, but the sadness is still present. "It's difficult anytime somebody loses a child. It's a loss that not only touches the family's heart, but it touches the community as well," says Scott Criswell, a local pastor.

The day of the accident, Hunter was being watched outside by his dad's girlfriend, Susan Newkirk. She was convicted for not moving him away from the water. His dad, Thomas Reffner, was inside the house at the time Hunter fell in. He pled guilty to endangering the welfare of a child.
