Saint Francis University Holds 16th Annual Science Day

LORETTO, Pa. —

After 16 years of running Science Day, Saint Francis University paved the way for future scientists, biologists and mathematicians.

435 High school teenagers came from across the state to learn what it takes to bring their careers to the next level.

26 school districts participated this year for a day full of competitions, hand-ons demonstrations, and presentations from professors of prestigious univerisities.

The goal is to push these students to spark more of an interest in science and technologies.

Professor of Physics Peter Skoner said, the reason it continues year after year is because our core group contact teachers we have, have been with Saint Francis University and Science Day for all 16 years. And they know it's a way for their kids to see what's the cutting edge in science and what's on college campuses.

One prime example of a science success is Dr. Curtis Huttenhower who came to Saint Francis University from the Harvard School of Public Health.

Huttenhower is a former Central Cambria graduate who hopes these kids follow in his footsteps.

He said I'm a computer scientist, I'm not a biologist, I'm not a doctor. There are many avenues by which people can get involved in biotechnology or any other science reserved field.
