Sandy Township Residents Protest Proposed Strip Mine

SANDY TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

Sandy Township residents are speaking out over a proposed strip mine.

The residents claim blasting at the Amerikohl Mining site would disrupt gas and water wells.

The mine was a topic at this week's Sandy Township supervisors' meeting.

The supervisors decided to hold off on granting the mine a conditional use permit, until they receive more information.

The mine would last around two years and use more than 500 acres of land.

The supervisors have 45 days to make a decision on Amerikohl's conditional use request.
