Search and Rescue crews participate in drill this weekend

By Brittany Boyer

ELK & CLEARFIELD COUNTIES —

For many in Pennsylvania, it is getting to be a favorite time of year, hunting season.

While hunting season might be a highly anticipated season for many, it's also one of the busiest times of the year for Elkland Search & Rescue.

It was back in 1984 when the organization first started.

Now, several years later the organization continues to grow and continues to assist the surrounding the community.

Matt Young, president of the Elkland Search and Rescue team told 6 News that on average they respond to about 12 calls a year.

This year, Young said it has been a lot busier.  He said they have responded to almost 40 calls.

In an effort to help other search and rescue teams and at the same time practice their skills, a drill is being held this weekend.

On Friday, about eight crews from across the state will conduct a large search in Parker Dam State Park.

Young is hoping that it is challenging to some. He also hopes everyone can learn something from the drill.

There will also be a day long search on Saturday in Parker Dam State Park.
