Seasonal Flu Vaccine In High Demand

While much attention this fall has been focused on the swine flu virus, scores of people across the Alleghenies are also concerned about the seasonal flu.

At a free clinic for the seasonal influenza vaccine, workers ran out of vaccinations two hours before the clinic was over.

The Johnstown Free Medical Clinic received 200 vaccines, and people lined Main Street for hours to be one of the first in line.

It took just about 60 minutes for the clinic to run out of vaccinations, and there were still many people who want the vaccine.

The Johnstown clinic on Main Street will administer more vaccines on Oct. 20 from 3-6 p.m. on the third floor of the Lee Campus Building.

In Somerset County, a flu shot clinic is scheduled for Thursday from 1-6 p.m. at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center on West Union Street.

Another flu shot clinic for the public is scheduled for Oct. 22 at the Goucher Street Giant Eagle store in Upper Yoder Township near Johnstown. It runs from 5-8 p.m. and the fee per shot is $30.
