ALTOONA, Pa. —

A Tyrone woman was an employee of a program that helps dyslexic kids learn how to read. And police said 28-year-old Angelina Reed stole $55,000 from the program over the course of two years.

The Scottish Rite organization operates their learning center at the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona, where Reed worked as the secretary. She had access to the credit cards and the checks. According to police, Reed wrote 109 of those checks to herself and recorded them as legitimate expenses.

When Reed was once asked about the charges on the business credit card, she told her colleague it was an emergency and it wouldn't happen again. However, the bills still piled up and that's when she was let go.

Reed is charged with theft, fraud and forgery but it's the kids who will likely suffer the most. She is set to appear in court on Jan. 9.
