Senator Called On Voting For Pay Increase

JOHNSTOWN —

You the viewer sent us dozens of emails telling us your resentment of the political pay raises. Armed with those emails, I spoke with State Senator John Wozniak.

As you may know by now Senator Wozniak voted for the legislative pay raise. Several of the emails were brutal, calling the legislatures bums and money hungry. Harsh words for those people entrusted with our well being.

After showing the senator a couple of emails, he responded.

He says that for the most part, white collar workers support the increase where blue collar workers don't. He says compared to executives, school superintendents, and positions like that, politicians are under paid. He says there's never a good time for a pay raise and that people naturally look at the negative; they see the sizable percentage of pay increase instead of the hard work that the politicians actually do. He says they don't see Rt. 22 booming or Gamesa setting up shop here.

He says Pennsylvanians are getting what they are paying for.

I voted for it. My shoulders are broad. I can take a lot of abuse for it, but at least I was upfront and honest. I'd like to see the report six months to a year from now and see the ones who voted no and see what they are doing after they voted no, says the Democrat Senator.

Senator Wozniak says that if the constituents voted on the pay raise, the legislatures would make eight thousand dollars a year and that's the type of work they would receive.
