Sentencing Postponed For Suffocating Deaths

SOMERSET COUNTY —

The sentencing of a Somerset County couple whose children suffocated inside a cedar chest has been delayed until next month.

Nathan Leydig and Heather Baker pleaded guilty in January to a single count each of child endangerment. The charges followed the deaths last fall of their two sons, 5-year-old Anthony and 3-year-old Alyjah.

The two boys suffocated after accidentally locking themselves inside a cedar chest in their Meyersdale home.

The couple's attorney was ill on Tuesday and was not present for the sentencing hearing, which caused the delay.

The two are now expected to be sentenced on April 20.
