Shade Townhip, Central City Fire Department Contract Dispute Continues

SHADE TWP., Pa. —

Central City Fire Department sends residents of Shade Township a letter apologizing for their cease of fire protection.

"A contract meeting was held in January 2009 which was to include an annual sum of money and an additional agreement for a substantial contribution for capital purchases. The substantial contribution was later denied by the Supervisors," in a statement released by Central City Board of Directors.

Shade Supervisors said they agreed upon a certain number and they don't want to be taken advantage of, and they will look into other options to solve this problem.

Supervisors want residents to know they will have fire protection, even if it takes creating their own fire department.

"The money we are asking for works out to be 4 cents a day per person for the residents we are serving," in a statement released by Central City Board of Directors.

Supervisors said they have been more than generous over the years giving hundreds of thousands of dollars.
