Sheetz Restaurant To Add Beer To Menu

Blair County —

Sheetz company officials said Thursday they will sell beer in the restaurant inside their convenience store along Altoona's Valley View Boulevard.

Community reaction to the news Wednesday was mixed. People against beer sales said they are concerned that it would encourage more drinking throughout the community.

Company officials said plans include training employees to handle alcohol sales. In a press release, officials said they are "excited" to be able to bring another product to their customers.

Some customers said they are also looking forward to it.

"I think that's fine," said Greg Wharton. "Anything that the Sheetz family does generally supports the local community. They've been very charitable in the different organizations and events that we've had locally and they wouldn't do anything that wouldn't be beneficial to our community."

Company officials haven't indicated whether they will expand beer sales beyond the Altoona location.
